Refuses to allow activation

I have a legal copy of Windows Media Version from my action pack. The machine
had been running fine.
Three days ago it decided something had changed and I would have to activate
again. After trying everything I could think of to get the machine to
activate, I reloaded the software.
It starts to the Welcome to Windows startup screen which requests
Ctrl-Alt-Delete. After the C-A-D process the logon screen comes on. After
logon, the desktop appears, and comes to a message "This copy of Windows must
be activated... when it is given the "yes" command the system synchronizes
some off-line files, logs off and asks for the logon process again.
What am I doing wrong? How do I fix it?

Boot into "Safe Mode", then attempt to activate. If that will not work,
please review the following:

You are prompted to activate Windows every time you restart your computer
