Activation Key

Hello, For some reason I have this key icon in my system tray that is
counting down for me to activate. I have clicked on this key multiple times
to activate but all I get is a blue window with a key graphic in it. When I
close the window the key icon in my system tray disappears. How am I supposed
to activate when I don't get any information? I didn't know microsoft has
gotten so complicated. I heard if it is not activated I will be locked out of
my computer. What is this all about? I activated my product months ago and
now all of a sudden I have to reactivate again. I wonder if it has something
to do with the update of service pak 2 recently.
I tried to get some help through Microsoft's email or chat first but when it
tries to retrieve information from my computer it takes forever...more than
10 minutes and I have a cable connection.
Can someone help me please? Thank you.

Go to start/run, and type

regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll

OK, then,

regsvr32.exe licdll.dll

If you see the icon after the above, try activating again. Assuming no
hardware changes that would cross the threshold set for activation, it's
possible something became corrupted on your system that caused the system
think it was not activated. SP2, in an of itself should not trigger
activation but if something became corrupted during the installation, that
might trigger it.

What if you have already been locked out? Is there anything you can do to
still activate windows so it will unlock you??

Boot to Safe Mode. Click on Activate Windows. Select the "call" option.
Follow the on-screen directions.

Its not a problem with running in safe mode or not. It just won't let me in
because my 30 day limit is up for activating windows. I don't have the
option to run in safe mode.

You must have the option to boot to Safe Mode, perhaps you are not properly
trying to access Safe Mode. If a system has gone past the 30 day activation
point, boot the system, start tapping F8 and keep doing so until the menu
appears. At the menu choose Safe Mode and press enter. Once in Safe Mode,
run activation, you will likely have to activate by phone using the phone
number presented to you during the activation process.

Boot to Safe Mode as previously described. Then go to Start, select Run and
type "regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll" without the quotes and press ENTER.
Then type "regsvr32.exe licdll.dll" without the quotes and press ENTER.

Then, type "oobe/msoobe /a" without the quotes, press ENTER and follow the
prompts.
