Activation Code Re-use?

Bob Hendry

Hello,

I recently installed Win XP Professional over my previous
XP Home Edition. May I now re-use the Home Edition
activation code to install XP Home on my second PC, which
is running Win 98 SE?

Thanks - in advance for your help.

Only if the Pro version is the FULL version (not the Upgrade version)
and the Home edition is NOT OEM.

I did exactly that with no problem at all. During the
install I was requred to connect with MS, where a very nice
robot gave me a new code to apply. It only took a few
minutes on my Broadband connection and I was pleasantly
surprised.

Provided the Pro is a full version, not an Upgrade needing some
qualifying system in support of its license (or you have some earlier
version of windows to support it); and

Provided the Home is not an OEM version that came with the machine and
which is licensed solely to that original one.

If that is all OK go ahead and install, and when it comes to
activation, if it is more than 120 days since you last did it, you will
find it will go through on the net just like first time. If not, you
will have to phone a toll-free number that will be given, to explain and
swap one long number for another to check back as you type it in

How about a reinstallation of an XP Pro OEM on the exact same computer? Will
a phone call be necessary?

Thanks,
