activation code not recognized

Carolyn

My hard drive went up on my computer so I had to purchase
a new one. After doing that, I was asked to reactivate
my Windows XP home edition that came w/ my computer.
When I tried to activate it using the activation code, it
said that it didn't recognize the activation code. I
don't have the original disk because the operating system
came already installed on my computer. I called Hewlett
Packard and they said they can't help me because my
warranty was up about 2 months ago. Does this mean that
I have to buy a new operating system or are there any
other suggestions?? please help!

Carolyn;
The Product Key affixed to your computer may only work with the exact
type of CD intended for that computer.
A friends CD will not work.
Call HP again and see if you can buy the CD from them.
Otherwise you would need to buy Windows XP from another source.

You could also search Ebay for the proper CD.

Choose the alternative option to "activate by phone".
