I have an "Invalid Activation Code issue" -- what to do?

Hi. I have a HP7955 that I bought a few years back. The type of machine that
comes with everything preloaded. Everything has been working fine. I have
both service pakages installed with no problems. I have added two additional
hard drives a with out any problems at all. 2-3 months ago while the
computer was doing the automatic updating, it told me that my activation code
was invalid. Didn't think anything of it because I new that to be wrong -- I
got my little sticker right there on the side of the computer. I didn't have
any problems after that and wasn't told about any activation issues. That is,
until yesterday. I wated to do a manual update because the computer hadn't
done it -- I guess since it told me I had an "issue".

The problem is that now I have this annoying little blue "star" in the lower
right corner. It pops up on a regular basis telling me about activation
issue. I can't update anything because of this problem. Following a link
from the "blue star" I found a page about how to activate you
windows/computer. Start - All Programs - Accessories -- System Tools. In
system tools there is suppose to a "Activate your computer" type of button.
Well, I don't have such a button. Like I said, whatever hardware upgrades
done to the Computer was a long time ago and everything has worked fine until
yesterday. What is my next step???

Reboot your computer into "Safe Mode".
While in Safe Mode, rename the wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files located in the
\Windows\system32 folder.

This will force activation on the following boot,
but should remove the message that you are already activated message.
Sometimes if these files get corrupted, they can cause this type of problem.
