Activate Windows

My laptop crashed and I had to use recovery discs to brink it back up. It
updated itself yesterday with windows update, now when I go back to check for
more, it says it can't do it, like it lost the file in doing it. When I went
through recover, it only made me validate windows but not activate it. Neep
help!

If you are saying your computer is not nagging you about activating, do a
search on C: for oembios.bin If you have that file, then yours is one
of the OEM installations that is built for self-reactivation upon
re-installation. Another way to check your activation status: Click Start >
All Programs > Accessories > System Tools. Choose the Activate Windows Tab.
It will tell you if XP has been activated.

If you purchased your laptop March 1 2005 or after, the above information is
no longer correct information, since Microsoft has changed the way XP can be
activated on OEM machines.

Not sure I have answered this correctly, but it looks like you were worried
that you weren't asked to activate your XP after reinstallation.
