Account Properties

I just installed Outlook2003 and tried to configure my Verizon e-mail
account. I believe that I've entered and typed the settings correctly.
These exact settings worked fine on a different PC using OE6.

On the Outlook Internet E-mail Settings (POP3) menu, I click on "Test
Account Settings". The network connection is OK, the Outgoing server
connection is OK, the Incoming server connection is OK, but the Test message
does not go through, and gives an error message of: "Send test e-mail
message: Unable to send test message. Please verify the E-mail Address
Field."

Furthermore, when I try to send an e-mail message, I get an error message as
follows: "Task 'Verizon E-Mail Server - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC78)
: 'Unable to send the message. Please verify the e-mail address in your
account properties. The server responded: 550 5.7.1 Authentication Required'
"

I know that my Verizon e-mail server account name and password are correct
(as noted, these worked perfectly on a different PC with OE6). And I've
checked the spelling of my e-mail address and other fields in the Account
Properties about a hundred times.

I've checked through the MS community posts, and didn't see anyone with a
similar problem.

Appreciate any help.

On the Outgoing Server tab of your account properties, do you have "My
outgoing server (SMTP) required authentication" checked? I'll bet you
don't. You should.
