Account Names Dont Match Folders?

D

David H.

Hello,

Just installed a brand new Compaq PC with XP Home SP1 for my daughter.
First switch on and did it self install and build, NO error or problems seen.

It starts up with a user of "Owner"
I renamed this to Admin & put on a password.

I then created a New Account of "Naomi" & Password.

I noticed the Doc & Setting folders did not have a "Admin" branch.?

So in User Accts I have:
Admin
Naomi

In user profiles:
PC3\Naomi
PC3\Owner

My Computer Shows Document Folders
Documents
Naomi's Documents
Admin's Documents

The Admin's Documents actually is the "Owner" folder.
Is this normal?
I assume it's because I renamed the Owner User Account
So I have a different displayed name vs actual folders?

Will this cause any problems?
I assume it's probably not advisable to rename the Owner Folder?

Many Thanks - David

Correct, changing the account name will not change the account folders.

No.

Correct.
If it really bothers you you could simply delete the admin account as
it is not the windows administrator account, just an account with admin
priviliges.
Just make sure your daughters account or another account has full
administrative privilages,
and if it was really needed, there is still the "real" administrator account
accessible by booting into safe mode.

Hello Spinner,

Many thanks for the quick response, much appreciated..
I still have a lot more to learn about what creating users does.

Thanks again.. David
