user acct folders

My user account is named OWNER.
However in the My Documents folder structures the folder
that has all of my stuff is named OWNER.RB
But there is another folder (not part of OWNER.RB) that
is named OWNER that has not much in it.
I wondering why this is there and can I delete the folder?

Do you mean the "C:\Documents and Settings" folder (not the "My
Documents" folder")?

If you mean then you have folders something like this :

C:\Documents and Settings\OWNER

&

C:\Documents and Settings\OWNER.RB

....with a "My Documents" folder within each of the above....and if you
can see that only one is being used by your "Owner" profile.

Then, as long as you do not have any other user accounts named "Owner",
you can assume that somewhere along the line, your "Owner" profile
changed it's folder and the unused one CAN be deleted.

This does happen for more than one reason, I would suspect. I'm not too
sure of what causes this situation to arise, but have experienced it on
more than one XP / 2K machine.

You can double-check which folder is in use for your current user
profile, by opening a 'Command Prompt' (dos-box) by typing cmd.exe in
the "Run" box on the 'Start Menu' and typing the following command :

set USERPROFILE

....and press [ENTER] which will return the folder your profile is
currently using.

Thanks to both replies (Tim & Singapore) . They were very informative.
And yes Tim you had the folder names correct, the only thing is that the
OWNER folder only had two files and a favorites folder in it. And by
the way I have already deleted earlier today with no problems.
