I am new to Windows and accidently uninstalled these items from XP Pro SP2.
Accesories and Utilities
Fax Services
Indexing Service
IE
IIS and a few others in the Windows Components Wizard.
My system works fine and when I try to reinstall these components it asks
for SP2.
I downloaded SP2 direct to my laptop and it installed fine.
Does SP2 dowloaded programme delete it self after installation because when
I try to find it it is not there. Should I obtain a SP2 disc and reinstall
these items from there?
I tried putting in the original disc that came with my Acer laptop but am
not sure how to search for the correct items and where they are on the disc.
Thanks

Mark, Can you tell me what this will do ? Should I have the SP2 disc to hand
or would it just be the restore discs that came witn laptop whici is prior to
SP2.
Thanks

SFC should now where SP2 was installed from, but you can browse to it if needed.

Good Morning,
If you have SP2 installed, it will appear in the: Control Panel/Add or
Remove Programs/when the list appears, scroll down to "Windows XP Service
Pack 2".
If you think you have taken out XP components and wish to restore them,
click the "Add/Remove Windows Components" portion of "Add or remove
programs, etc" and add check marks to the ones you want to restore. NOTE,YOU
DO not un-install these XP components when you remove a check mark, you just
hide them. If you want to download SP2 again, go here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en
.. I would advise you to order SP2 on a CD [I think it is still free] from
Microsoft here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx .

If you go back to a restore prior to your uninstalling, you should be OK.
Ira
