Accessing Vista Desktop w/ Vista Notebook

Just got a new Vista Notebook a couple of days ago, and have been trying to
set up file sharing on my network. My Vista desktop is wired to my wireless
router, while the notebook connects wirelessly. My problem is this, My
desktop can access the notebook and it's shared resources over the network,
but when I try to access the desktop w/ my notebook i get a message that
states "Windows cannot access \\DESKTOP". The workgroups are the same, I
have it set up on a private network, and have even tried disabling my
firewalls (Norton 360 on the desktop, and Norton I.S. on the notebook) to no
avail. Is there something I'm missing here? Thanks for your help.

hello all - I'm having the exact same situation that Todd described. I even
uninstalled norton to see if it was the problem - no change. turned firewalls
off - no change. in all situations, the desktop can get to the laptop, but
not the other way around. Both machines appear in the Network window. I can
ping the laptop from the desktop, but not the other way around.

I'm not a complete newbie to this stuff, but I'm completely stumped. Anyone
have any ideas?

Thanks in Advance,

Thanks for the advice. Even though the link was for an old version of NIS,
it got me going to the right direction. All I needed to do was move my
network ID, IP address from limited to trusted in my firewall settings. It
now works perfectly!
