Accessing User Account Folders

I'm having quite some trouble trying to work a second hard drive into my
computer.
I am currently using a computer that is running WinXP, and I have an
additional hard drive from a previous computer that also has WinXP on it as
well as very important files.
I installed the second hard drive as the slave, went through the master to
access my personal files and it told me access was denied. I pulled the
secondary hard drive and made it the master. I booted WinXP through that and
removed my user account password. I reloaded the original hard drive as the
master and again tried to access my personal files, again it told me access
was denied.
I was told to create a similar user account on the master hard drive and see
if that would give me access. Instead, it has completely blocked me from
accessing my old hard drive at all. It refuses my password at the Windows
sign on. I deleted the second account I made off the master, but it didn't
change a thing.

Does anyone know what I should do?

Hi Sounds like some sort of file protection in place which is stopping
you from taking files off the hdd if its operating system hasnt been
started, have you just tried to burn the file to cd then copy over?

Flamer.

You're going through far more than you need to. All you need to do is take
ownership of the files (with the hard drive in the slave position where you
want it).

Thank you for the reply and the info, that will definitely help once I get on
my hard drive. Unfortunately I can't get to that step yet because as I said,
Windows will no longer accept my administrative password on the old drive. It
tells me it's incorrect, which isn't true. Is there some way to override this?

Again, you are misunderstanding the procedure. You do not need to boot into
the old hard drive. Connect the old hard drive as slave, boot into your
working Windows installation. Then follow the instructions in the links I
gave you to take ownership of the files on the old (slave) drive.

Ahh, okay, I'm sorry I was misunderstanding. I will try what you suggested
and let you know if it works. Thanks again for your help.
