Accessing secure database from Word

A

Adrian Jansen

Hi,

Using Access 2002

I have a secure Jet database setup, and a set of users and groups defined.
We want to be able to use Word mailmerge to link to the database and get the
names and addresses for mail and labels. I have locked all the tables, with
access only through queries with RWOP permission, and now find that I cant
link to a query from Word, using the standard Word mailmerge wizard. I get
to the point where I select the database from the file dialog, enter a valid
Access username and password, then test the connection, and get a message
that the open failed - "Test connection failed because of an error in
initializing provider." I presume you must join the workgroup file somehow,
but I could not find any way to do that.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks Albert, I will look into it. Word 2002 has certainly made mailmerge
pretty complicated.

Word 2002 has certainly made mailmerge pretty complicated.

I gave up when I saw the changes they made from word 95 to word 97. I
"rolled my own" from oridinary word primitives, so now, nothing they can do
will affect me! Once bitten, twice shy...

You are right there.

I used the code example by Albert Kallal, driving the Word app directly from
Access, and it works really well.

Thanks Albert !
