Accessing old HD

Hello,
I had a laptop that no longer functioned due to the screen but the hard
drive was fine. That computer was password protected at logon. I purchased a
hard drive sleeve with my new laptop to be able to access the files on my
previous HD. I can see all the folders but am not being allowed access to
open them. Is there any way around this problem?
