access to NTFS volume

Hi to everybody, I need your help about to access to a volume NTFS from dos.
I tried with NTFSDOS pro but it is a trial version and it does nothing.
Now I would like to scan computers for viruses directly from dos command
line before starting winxp. The antivirus program permits that if the volume
is FAT and not NTFS partition.

Can you help me in some way? Or if you know some freeware application that
can solve this problem?

You really should get yourself an anti-virus program that can do a startup
scan on an NTFS volume. Norton AntiVirus 2003 will do the job. You shouldn't
accept less than 100% functionality when it comes to something as important
as scanning for viruses.

Hi Mike thanx for your reply, I have got Norton Antivirus 2003, but it does
not scan harddisk from dos.
If I reboot my system how can i do that? it doesn't work, it tells me that
it is impossible to access on a ntfs volume.
If you have some more information that can help me I will be grateful to
you.

Hi Mike thanx for your reply again. Ok you are right about that, it is not a
proble of Norton Antivirus. My problem is the following:

Doing an audit process I would like to scan the computers of my customers
without they have Norton Antivirus, ok? If I create some rescue disckettes I
can use of course them in another pc with no antivirus builtin only if and
only if its partition is FAT and not NTFS.

I hope you will have some advices to help me.

If you are using XP pro, you'll need to run the local security policy and go to
this key: local policies\security options\recovery console\allow floppy copy and
access to all drives and folders, and enable it. Close security policy and then
do the following from help and support.
To install the Recovery Console as a startup option

1.. With Windows running, insert the Setup CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2.. CLick Start and select Run.
3.. Type the following where D: is the CD-ROM drive letter:
D:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons

4.. Follow the instructions on the screen.
Notes

a.. To run the Recovery Console, restart your computer and select the Recovery
Console option from the list of available operating systems.
b.. You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the
Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is
connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from
completing this procedure.
c.. To see the commands available on the Recovery Console, type help at the at
the console prompt.
d.. If your computer will not start, you can run the Recovery Console from the
Setup CD. See Related Topics for information on running the Recovery Console
when your computer will not start.

Forgot to mention, reboot and choose the recovery console and login using your
current administrator name and password. Then type set and change the values to
true. Then you can access all of your NTFS partitions outside of winXP but it is
limited in what you can and cannot do. Still, you can do a lot with it which is
better than nothing.
