Help, please

I'm trying to get my web-site up and running. I have a web hosting site, domain name etc. I put up a temporary 'Web Site under construction' at my URL and like a fool - kick me when I'm down and stand on my head for fun - in my ignorance I clicked on the ftp URL that came via e-mail, this took me to my ftp site ( myURL) then an FTP pop up, popped up (the Int Explorer one. I filled it in using my password etc, dragged and dropped the index page I'd designed into the browser window and then received an error 403 message saying that I was denied access to this site because I'd given the wrong credentials. I'm confused and embarrased because I don't know enough to sort the problem out. Stupidly I do have proper FTP software, just lack as much knowledge as I think I have to access my own URL. I used this software later to try to retrieve the first page I put up - which I did, but still no joy. So I reposted, still no jo

I realise that this may seem less than innocent, as it may appear that I'm trying to hack a site, I'm not, whether you choose to believe me is down to you. But, how do I put it right

I know that the site is effective, I use e-mail forwarding on the site and that's in place

Help, help, help

You will find some article on 403 errors on this page.
http://www.generation.net/~hleboeuf/403.htm

If your program was working and stopped after this update than try the fix.

Fix if This problem occurs after you apply the 832894 security update
(MS04-004) or the 821814 hotfix.

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=831167
SYMPTOMS
Programs that use Wininet functions to post data (such as a user name or a
password) to a Web server retry the POST request with a blank header if the
Web server closes (or resets) the initial connection request.
--

If that fails, I suggest you tell us the program you are using o upload your
page.
I use CuteFtp others may get involve if you use an other program.
