Access Table Links

Hello,

I have a situation which is puzzling me. I have a total of 5 workstations,
all with legal versions Access 2003 installed, as upgrades to a previous
Access 97 installation, Access 97 was not retained during upgrade, Win 2k
operating systems with current service pack installs on all workstation.

On workstation 1, I have an Access database, DB1, installed as FE/BE
configuration, the database BE resides on this machine in a corresponding
data folder. Within the FE, I have incorporated a means of linking new
tables and managing linked tables, using existing Access linking features.
The feature works fine, as it should, and the same as if I were to access
these features from one of the built in Access tools bars.

On workstations, 2, 3, 4, 5, I also have a full installation of Access 2003.
On each of these machines, I have installed the FE portion of the Access
application, DB1, same FE that resides on workstation 1. Each workstation
is also mapped to the DB1 BE on workstation 1, using the same drive mapping
letter on each workstation. On each of these machines, when attempting to
use any of the table link features, built in or otherwise, the program does
not complete the display portion of the existing links, even when I have
manually set these links on each of the workstations. To manage links, I
end up displaying the database window on each of the workstations, manually
breaking the links on each table, then use the FILE> Get External Data >
Link Tables.

I am puzzled by this occurrence and would like some insight to this. If
anyone has had similar situations like this, please advise on your
resolution.

Thanks.

You can try three things 1) Use UNC address to link the tables 2) Split the
database to create the FE and BE using MS Access 3) Programmatically link the
tables
