Access 2002 Vista Ultimate Server 2008

We have an Access 2K+ FE/BE database with FE on each workstation (mixed XP
Pro and Vista Ultimate). The Vista machines have Access 2002-3 installed on
them. The XP Pro machines have the same.

BE was on a stand-alone Win2K PC but we moved it to Server 2008 server. Gave
all permissions to that folder for the domain users group.

Any number of XP workstations can access the BE at the same time. No
problem. LDB file works as expected.

If one Vista workstation opens the system, any number of XP stations can
access the system. Good.

If a single XP workstation opens, no Vista PC's can access until the XP
closes out.

If a single Vista station opens, no other Vista stations can open.

On my Vista machine I see the BE database window but the front-end menu
display does not appear until the other machines exit the application.

Do I still have a permissions problem or is there a problem with Server
2008/Vista and .LDB access. If the Vista pc hangs it will time out with a
message: Windows cannot find "\\server\folder\abc.mdb. Make sure you typed
the name correctly and try again."

If all other workstations exit the app then the hanging Vista station will
connect and run the app.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I am ready to move the
backend back to the old workstation as multiuser doesn't appear to be working
in Vista workstations and Server 2008. Are Jet engine patches needed on the
server?

Would appreciate any hints. Thanks.

Since your question went to page three with no answer, I trust that my simple
minded answer won't intefere.

Why not just upgrade your Vista machines to XP?

Well, that is just not an option. The database works fine when housed on a
Server 2003 or a Win2K workstation. It even works fine when housed on my
Vista workstation. Something screwy is happening under Server 2008.
