Access slows to a crawl when editing FE

I have a FE / BE setup on my database. One of the main reasons that I
did this was so that I could edit the front end and upload it without
causing problems with day to day activities.

My problem is that when i log into the database to edit it, even
though i'm using a seperate FE than active users, the database slows
to a crawl unless everyone logs out. It takes minutes between actions
when editing anything. Am I doing something wrong? Is this a common
problem? Does anyone know of a work around or solution to this?

You could have a separate db just for your forms (no tables linked)
edit the forms there then update your actual FE from the forms db.

Thanks Tom,

I have tried that. From an editing standpoint it works wonderfully,
but for some reason when i import the new form into my working FE it
crashes on startup. I'm not sure why, but I tried numerous times on
different forms to make changes with the same result. As soon as i
import it and restart the FE it crashes.

As far as i can tell, the FE has to be edited within the FE / BE
network/directory structure that it exists within.

I have been able to recreate the network / directory structure on my
home network and bring the FE home to edit it. I can then upload the
FE in the morning when i come in and all works fine. This doesn't
really help when i need to make changes during work hours though.

Just to clarify on the last post.

The Database I'm editing has to be pointed to the BE that the original
FE uses (it doesn't actually have to be in the directory structure).
I can have a copy sitting on my desktop still be able to log in and
edit it with no problems as long as no one is logged into the DB.
