Internet slows to a crawl

I am running on XP with a DSL connection. After being on
the internet for a few minutes, it slows to a crawl.
After rebooting, it's ok, until, once again, after a few
minutes it slows down. I would look for a solution in
this Newsgroup, but I can only look at a few messages
before it practically comes to a halt. Any ideas?
