Access Privileges

I have a user running Word 2002 (with all updates) on XP Pro (also updated)
on a new Dell Intel Core 2 Duo PC. He is also running Norton Anti-virus
2006, and live-updates says it's all up-to-date.

For some reason, he is starting to get corruption on some of his Word
documents. If he tries to open the docs in Word, he get the message "Word
cannot open the document. User does not have access privileges."

I brought his PC up in Safe Mode and signed in as Administrator. I followed
instructions for reassigning access to the files, and it worked for some. I
then ran defrag, and one of the files disappeared. I still have 3 files left
that I cannot delete or do anything with.

Any ideas on what might be causing the problem and how I can delete the files?

Have you checked the drive for errors? Could be the drive has bad sectors.

You also may want to visit the hard disk drive manufacturer's web site and
get their diagnostics utility and have a go with it...

Did you get the drive manufacturer's diagnostic utility and run a test with
it?
Also - what error (word-for-word) do you get when you try to delete said
file?
Anything in the event log?

Tried any applications like Unlocker?

Thank you. At this point, I agree that it's a hard drive problem. Since
this is a new PC (not even a month old), I'm going to refer the problem to
the manufacturer as it should be covered under warranty.
