Access - Please Help

We use Access to sort building permit and they go in order, though lately
when we type a new building permit for October it throws it in with April
instead of following the pattern and going after September, if you could
please help it would be a life saver.

Is there any possibility that a user might be formatting the entry date in
the wrong order? i.e. 10-4-2004 vs 4-10-2004

Also, is there any possibility that the Date Order got set differently in
Control Panel?

Can you give more information? Do they go in order by the date you enter
them in the computer? Do you assign a date or does it automatically take
today's date as a default?
