access permission with a VPN connection

Joe

I have setup RRAS/VPN. Now when I connect remotely to the
VPN server as a domain user, I am able to browse the
network content and view all shared files and folders even
though they are restricted for that user. When I login as
as that same user from inside the network the same files
and folders are restricted as it should be.
Does VPN access have seperate permissions? I did not see
any.

Thanks,
Joe

Browsing has nothing to do with permissions. The computer browser service
looks after the browse list. If the remote client is a domain member, it
should be able to get the browse list from the domain master browser. I'm a
not at all sure why your LAN clients cannot do the same.

I think you misunderstood the post. The network client is
working fine. It is the access permissions are not being
applied to the same user when the domain user is accessing
the network through VPN.

What sort of permissions are we talking about here? Do you mean something
set up in an AD policy?

A dialup client does not necessarily log into the domain. The client
will only be governed by domain policies if a domain login is done. By
default, only the remote access policy applies.
