Access is Denied II

I have "access is denied" message everytime I want to access "My Shared Folder"

I've tried to log on in Safe Mode as instructed in "How to take ownership of
a file or folder in Windows XP"
<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421/en-us>, but when I wanted to turn off
the "Simple File Sharing" by trying to access:

Start>>My Computer>>Tools>>Folder Options>> Advanced Settings>>Use simple
file sharing (Recommended)

I could not find the "Use simple file sharing" check box in the "Advanced
settings.

what do I do now?

Thank you again

Hi

Open Windows Explorer and go to Tools>Folder Options>View and scroll down to
the bottom of the list.

It sounds as if you're running Windows XP Home Edition. If
that's the case, you will not see an entry in Folder Options to
disable Simple File Sharing. Once you've booted into Safe Mode
the Security tab should automatically be displayed for any
folder that is on an NTFS drive or partition.

What happens when you right click the Shared Folder and select
Properties from the Menu? Is the Security tab displayed?

When you boot into Safe Mode, what account are you logging on
with? If you're using an account that has limited status,
you're not going to see the Security tab. Try logging on with
the built-in Adminstrator account and see if you can access the
Security tab on the Shared Documents folder.

Note: In order to logon with the Administrator account you may
need to do the following:
Right after you select Safe Mode from the Advanced Startup
Options menu, start hitting the Shift key. Keep hitting the
Shift key until you see the Welcome Screen. On the Welcome
Screen, click on the Administrator icon. If that doesn't work,
logon with your account and go to Start -> Log Off. You should
now see the Welcome Screen.

The only way I can think of to create the conditions you've
described, Access Denied and no Security tab, would be if
someone booted into Safe Mode and explicitly denied permission
for your user account to access that folder and your account is
a limited account. If that's the case then you're going to have
to find out why that happened.

Post back with a few details about your system. For instance,
what other accounts exist on this machine? Who else has access
to an account that's a Computer Administrator?

When I attempt to exit anything -- a task manager, an application, a system
search, anything -- a fragment of the window "hangs" on my desktop. What
causes it and what can I do about it?

I run XP Home on a Pentium III 13 GB system. I still have almost 4 G left on
the hard drive.

I've tried cold booting, restarting, two virus scans, disc check, disk
cleanup, everything I can think of. Nothing helps. Any thoughts would be
appreciated.

Try an uninstall / reinstall with the latest version the drivers for the
graphic card.

Check the memory with a memory diagnostic tool. Run these two and let
each run for a few hours.

Thanks, Rock.

Uninstall/reinstall of what? XP Home? I don't feel competent to do that. I
can surely unistall; it's the reinstall part that I'm not sure about. If I
were prompted with a question I didn't understand about my settings, all
would be lost.

Right now I'm doing an sfc /scannow.

Should I try to download the latest version of the drivers for the graphics
card without doing the uninstall/reinstall? How do I do that?

You misunderstood. Uninstall the _graphics drivers_, reinstall with the
latest version. Get it from the card manufacturer's site if it's a
retail card or the computer vendor if an OEM.

I can't figure out how to find the graphics drivers or get the latest
version. Could you say more, please? Thanks.
