Access is denied errors when remotely administering XP

I just upgraded a Windows 2000 Professional machine to
Windows XP Professional. Now whenever I attempt to
remotely administer the upgraded machine, I get "Access is
denied" errors. For example, using event viewer, I am
unable to connect to the XP machine. These computers are
all in a Windows 2000 Server domain. I am logged in as an
administrator. Please help!

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your posting.

According to your post, you encounter the "Access Denied" error when
performing remote connection on the XP Professional client.

If I have misunderstood your concern please don't hesitate to let me know.

1. Please right click the XP PC's My Computer => Properties => Remote,
ensure the "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer" is checked.

After that, click the Select Remote User option. Click the Add button, and
then add your account in it. Reboot computer and then test the situation.

2. If the problem still remains, please turn off ICF(Internet Connection
Firewall) feature on the XP computer. Complete steps to disable ICF can be
referred to from the following article:

Have a great day!

I am having this same issue and have been searching
Technet and newsgroups for some resolve on this. I've
seen only about 3 posts relating to it, and this was the
only one with an answer; however, this did not fix it.

My situation is:
I have a Win2K domain with some XP clients. When using
the manage computer option and connecting to a remote
computer, I get "Access is denied" for Local Users and
Groups and for Event Viewer. However, I can stop and
start services, and I can unc to C$ on remote machines.
In addition, I notice I cannot access HKLM in the
registry of remote computers.

I am able to manage remote win2K pc's in the domain.
What gives?

Thank You
Jeremy

I am having the same problem. I have localized the problem to the
machine that you are on while trying to remote manage. If I am on a
WinXP Pro machine, I get a access denied. However, with the same
domain account, when I logon to a Win2k machine, I am able to manage a
machine remotely.

MS, please help.
