Access Denied

If I try to copy, delete or moved one particular file, I
get access denied. The file is not locked by another user.
I can not open it in Word 2000 either, it says 'file can
not be found'.
I have rebooted my machine and defraged it also. To no
avail.
As this is a most important file, how can I get it back
(the file has also corrupted my backups). Or am I doomed
to losing thousands of pounds worth of information because
I used Microsoft. Microsoft appears to be at fault here.
Can anyone tell me of a solution.

It would help a great deal if you told us the exact name of the file and
how you're trying to open it.

I would not expect either of those actions to have any effect.

Is the file actually on the backups, or is it missing? Microsoft may or
may not be at fault here, but who's at fault doesn't really matter. If I
had data that valuable, I wouldn't be relying on a single means of backup.
Neither should you.
