Access denied to shares

Hello,

History: DC housing file shares running W2K sp4 was
demoted to a member server.

Problem: After the demotion I started to receive
complaints that after users logon to the domain they are
able to access their shares then when they try to access
the share later Win9x clients get access denied and have
to log off and then back on. XP clients get a red question
mark but are able to asscess the share without logging
off.

Any help would be great!

Thanks
Ted

I'm having identical issues with W9x clients
and the red question marks as you describe.

Do you have w2k or XP users accessing your network
remotely via PPTP or other VPN? If so,
are they able to map drives?

Thanks

No one accessing our network remotely via PPTP or VPN. The
users in question are with-in our LAN.

Well I guess this question was to hard to answer, so I
will answer it myself.....

The problem occured because the master browser never
updated that the DC was demoted and was looking at the
demoted machine as a DC still. After I ran the tickel
command to force an election, all was well
