Access Database Locked

I using an Access Database on a network. It has a Switchboard that allows you
to access several different forms, some of which have subforms. I tried to
open the database to use and I got the following message. "The database has
been placed in a state by user 'Admin' on machine 'JVAUGHN' that prevents it
from being opened or locked. Can I get some serious help with this. How can I
stop this from happening? What is causing this problem?

Mr. JVAUGHN has control of the database now as long as he likes. He
appears to have administrator rights to it. Check with him. If he tells you
he is no longer has the database open then make sure everyone else not in
the database and then delete the YOURDATABSENAME.LDB file. That should
return things to normal.

I get the same message (just different name) when several different people
access the database. Does it matters if they had the database open idle for a
long time?

I can't give you a definitive answer on that. It seems to be OK IF you
have a nice stable LAN, but if it is a little iffy then any number of issues
can come up.

I might ask: Is this database split, with a back end on the server and
with each user having their own front end linked to the back end? Access is
not all that stable in a shared environment unless it is split.

Each user has to access the database from the server. It's not split
at all.

It's time to split it. I even think Access has a wizard to help you
split it.
