Access 97 to 2003 Database conversion.

It seem that when an Access 97 database is converted to Access 2003 the new
2003 database turns out to be about 1/10 the size of the original 97 version.
Why? Is the 2003 version that good or what?
I think it is great unless the 2003 is missing something.
Does anyone know?
 
If anything, the Access 2003 database should be larger.

Is it possible you hadn't compacted the Access 97 database in a long time?
