Access 97 hangs during data import

R

Richard Barnes

This happens randomly when importing data and testing it
against an existing Access table with a large amount of
data in it. Are there any reasons why Access 97 may not
handle large data sets. The table to be imported is
about 2000 records (3 fields each) and the table it is
checked against and imported to is about 150,000 records.

If you are appending, and depending on a unique
index to reject records, don't do that. (bring all the
data into a Jet table, delete matching records, then
append). Apart from that, check that your temp
directory is OK.

2000*3 is not big, but I've not done an import
against a table with 150K records.

That isn't large.
There may be bad data.
You should review and clean it first.
