Access 2003 Runtime on NT 4 SP6 Running Office 97

Can I create a runtime version of my Access 2003 application and install it on a Windows NT 4 (SP6) machine that is also running Office 97. I do not want to impact the ability of my client to use Access 97 (full version).

The short answer unfortunately is no.
All Office 2003 products, including the Access 2003 runtime require Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
There is no way to get around that limitation to my knowledge.
See this link for the requirements:

Your only other option is to get the Developer's Edition for Office XP or Office 2000, but Microsoft
no longer sells those previous versions. You will need to search the web for previous versions. I
believe the runtime for Access 2002 and 2000 is compatible with NT systems.

But, I could use the Access runtime for Access from Office XP on a machine that has Office 97 installed and not affect it?

Well "not affect it" is a mighty big statement!!!

The best answer I can give on that is - maybe.
Yes, Access runtime can coexist on a machine that has other versions of Access as well as other
Office programs, BUT that does not mean problems may crop up now and then.

Most people find the PDW (Package & Deployment Wizard) that comes with Office Developer to be
inadequate for their needs, so you may also be looking at having to purchase a 3rd party addon.
SageKey is the one that seems to be recommended most often: http://www.sagekey.com/

Using their scripts alleviate most of the problems associated with "co-access-habitation".
Interesting word there.

Also, using a professional install program like Wise or InstallShield is recommended over the PDW.
Tony Toews has a good article on runtime issues which may help. You can find that here:

Hi Jeff:

Not being in the market, I haven't looked at Access 20003, and I didn't know
this.. Interesting... Glad I am using A2K2!

Hi Fred,

Yeah unfortunately that can deter places with older software.
That's actually detering me from purchasing it as well.
I know a lot of places still running 95, 98, ME, and NT.
That leaves out a large segment for sales in my opinion.
:-(

BTW, I didn't realize Microsoft has released Access 20003.

To be slightly more specific it's Win 2000 SP3. Which you should be
at anyhow.
