runtime for 2003

I've read that the Accesss 2007 runtime is free to distribute but the Access
2003 runtime requires you to have Visual Studio 2005 Tools for the Microsoft
Office System.

I would like to develop a full proof install solution for an MDE created in
Access 2003 and a few activex controls.
Works no matter what version of Access is installed on users pc (none, 97,
2000, 2003, 2007, multiple etc...).

Any suggestions on what to use (just the packaging wizard, sagekey,
installshield, wise)?

Also anyone know a cheap way I can get "Visual Studio 2005 Tools for the
Microsoft Office System"?

Thanks,
Mark

I am reasonably certain that you are going to have to obtain Visual Studio
2005 Tools for the Microsoft Office System in the "aftermarket" because it
is not a current Microsoft product. That would be from a vendor who still
has unsold copies (either online or local) or from an auction site or a used
software site.

I don't know what the demand is for that package, and that is what will
determine how much you have to spend.

So far, I have ran 2007 runtime with no problem (except windows updates)
on
A2K format.

The only condition that I don't use all references. I use only common
references that are likely to be included in the new version or will be
automatically updated to use the new version.

If you need custom ActiveX controls, you'll have to manually copy/regserv
into each PC/Client where your original location of the references.
Runtime
migth not include all version of older references.

Or use Full A2007 with Developer Extension (it's free too).

What ActiveX controls? Maybe we can help you get rid of those.

Sagekey is the only fool proof means of installing a runtime without
potentially causing problems with other versions of Access or
runtimes.

No.

or runtimes.

Well, except when it's not foolproof, i.e., when MS changes
something in the runtime that breaks their ad hoc,
reverse-engineered installation scripts.
