Access 2003 Photo Errors

BJ

I have a database I created in Access 2000 with linked
photos. After installing Office 2000, it changed the JPEG
default to Office Manager and uninstalled Photo Editor.
Now to be able to view the photos in my picture folder I
need Office Manager as the default and it won't let me
view the photos in the Access database.

How do I go about converting the photos in the Access
database to use the Office Manager - or do I need to
reinstall Photo Editor?

Any suggestions would be appreciated as I tried to insert
a different type of image, but Office Manager does not
show up.

Are you sure Photo Editor was uninstalled? Check if you have Photo editor in your start menu ( Office 2000 default loaction is Microsoft Officwe tools), and you can open it from there. If you can then more than likely the file type extension was reassigned

For Win 2K or Win XP, try openning My computer. Under the Tools menu, open Folder Options. Click on the File types tab
Scroll until you come to Jpeg, or jpg. highlight and look below under details for what app is assigned to open jpgs

You can change the asignment from there also. Click on change and follow the instructions.

Hope this help

This does not work, Photo Editor is not installed, when
Office 2003 upgraded it - it took Photo Editor off. How
do I get Office picture manager to work instead of Photo
Editor or do I need to reinstall Office 2002 so I can get
Photo Editor to work in my Access Data Base again. I
sure don't want to have to delete all my pictures that
are linked to it and start over.

Thanks for you help in this.

I've heard of this issue before, but can't remember now what the suggested
workaround was. I've asked for more information, and will post here as soon
as I hear anything. If you don't get an another answer in the meantime, try
checking back here again later.

The spammers and script-kiddies have succeeded in making it impossible for
me to use a real e-mail address in public newsgroups. E-mail replies to
this post will be deleted without being read. Any e-mail claiming to be
from brenreyn at indigo dot ie that is not digitally signed by me with a
GlobalSign digital certificate is a forgery and should be deleted without
being read. Follow-up questions should in general be posted to the
newsgroup, but if you have a good reason to send me e-mail, you'll find
a useable e-mail address at the URL above.

I believe that it is possible to install Photo Editor from the Office 2k media.
This may defer the problem until the next Office/Windows update, or until the user installs software which
changes registrations etc.

Using OLE Embedding or Linking comes with other problems when used for storing compressed images (including
a storage overhead of up to 200 *times* for jpeg, plus loss of EXIF info, and potentially image quality
too).

Alternatives include using raw binary storage (if the images are to be stored inside the database) or using
external image files. These can be implemented using the Access Image control, however this too is not
without its' caveats. Alternatively, third-party solutions, such as our own, can be used to avoid all
the common problems and offer enhanced capabilities.

You have to install MS Photo Editor from either your Office XP or 2K
original CD's. DO a GoogleGroups search as there were a couple of
Registry issues that have arisen for some people.

I finally figured it out - I had to reinstall Photo
Editor, which is under Office Tools on the first CD of
Office 2000 and it is installed under Common Files -
Microsoft Shared. I just installed Photo Editor only,
nothing else so as not to mess with the other programs in
the Office 2003 - such as Excel, Word, Publisher and
Outlook.

Everything seems to be working fine now.

Thanks for the help.
