access 192.168.1.1

I have a dlink adsl320 modem and can't get into configuration via
http://192.168.1.1 as suggested in manual to the dlink dsl320T modem

I run a ipconfig on my wired connection and got this in response

Certainly so, but the computer is getting its address from some other place.

And, you cannot access 192.168.x.x from the indicated network.

Is there a direct connection from the computer to the router? It could be
that the gateway address is one which XP selects when it cannot find a dhcp
server.
