Does AC97 onboard sound work or not with Vista? I have seen it both ways.

Mine works also, and I have a MSI board with
no special downloads when upgrading to Vista Business.

Depends on your board, I suppose. Windows update
has always given me the op' to download or not. No
problems so-far.

I had to get an updated driver to get it working. In fact, I had to disable
onboard sound during Vista install, as the installer will enter a BSOD cycle
with sound enabled.

As we have said it all depends on your board.
My MSI only needed a Vista compatible video
card for a (non) BSOD upgrade.
As a matter of fact, I have never had a BSOD,
Blue, Black or Brindle. We are talking about an
old (home) toy here..chip= 478 P4 2.6Mhz
My office laptop is another ?. It runs Enterprise
and again......NO BSOD's.
Perhaps I'm just lucky.
Different strokes for different folks !

I have onboard sound Realtek AC97 chipset 655 and Realtek says that Realtek
AC'97 Vista Driver 6211 is compatible with chipset 655. Now the problem is,
I have NOT been able to download the 6211 drivers. Does anyone know where I
can download these drivers.

I did download some drivers from realtek that say are compatible with Vista,
but I have no idea if they are compatible with chipset 655. I got these at:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Any help is greatly appreciated. I do have a contact # for Realtek in
California that is if they ever answer, I may get more information. # is
1-408-577-1832 if anyone needs it.

I could only find this link.

The AC 97 appears to cover a whole range of chipset.
