Realtek AC 97

I just installed Rc1 and the the most recent beta drivers for my onboard ac97
sound
card. You now get an option for line in for rear speakers and it works. When
i test my speaker configuration for surround or quadrophonic all speakers
work. Sad thing is thats the only place it works in is the speaker
configuration. Media player doesnt work yet.

mine did the same thing.
i reinstalled the mb realtek programing software then setup the
speakers with the realtek speaker setup.
then let ms update update the sound driver again then the ms
settings work after that.
worked on my friends mb with realtek on board sound also.

Is this a new driver?
When you go to places like control panel, do you still get a pop up saying
your drivers are not compatible with Vista?

no i didn't get any message but later ms said a update was ready
and when i looked it was a realtek driver update.
the trick is to get the realtek control software for your motherboard
in place then you can get the speakers working.

Well I have never had a problem with the sound not working, its just this
pop up that comes up saying its not made for Vista.

when my vista install came up i checked the speakers
and the center and fronts worked and the rears and the sub didn't.
until i reloaded the realtek drivers from the asus web site.
my friends older abit board did the same thing with his 5.1 setup.
if your running 2.1 you wouldn't have noticed it because 2.1 works.

They are just basic built in laptop speakers. No dolby or stereo or
anything I don't think.

Beck:

I get this RealTek popup on RC2 x86, but not x64. But the sounds works
(at least at a basic level) in both cases.

If you get this popup, then try this: Close the popup without checking
the "Do not ask again" box, and then switch to classic view. The popup
will come again (if it doesn't, then close Control panel and open it
again). Close the popup again. On my machine Control panel is now
frozen, and even task manager cannot get rid of the frozen window. Have
to restart. If you open control panel (now in classic view) again, the
popup will come again and control panel will freeze again if you just
close the popup. The only way to use control panel now is to check the
"Do not ask again" box on the popup.

Too many things like this, IMHO.
