Recently, I finally connected a harddrive from my older, crashed computer to
my newer computer. Everything works and all, but I have a problem. I had
protected some my files on the old harddrive, and can't access them now. For
clarification, the method I used to protect these files was this: Right-click
on Folder > Properties > Sharing tab > Check "Make this folder private" box.

Rather simple method, yes, but it was all I needed. And now I'm at a loss as
to how I should go about disabling the protection and get these select files
back.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Yes. All you have to do is take ownership of the files. In XP Pro, you
have to disable Simple File Sharing (in Explorer, tools, folder options,
view, and the last option) to get the options, but in XP Home, you can only
get them in Safe Mode.

If there are a lot of files and folders, it can take a few minutes for the
process to complete.
