About file sharing in Windows 2000

Hi,

I am a bit confused when setting up file sharing in Windows 2000. Would
anyone be kind enough to tell me the difference between permission and
security when sharing the folder? It seems like they are both controlling
the access to the files / folders.

Thx,

Arcto,

There are two kinds of permissions when sharing. Those on the file system
and those attached to the share. The file system permissions work all the
time. The share permissions control access to the resource via the share,
but are overridden by the file permissions should they be more restrictive.

If you don't have a special need for different permissions when sharing
versus direct access, only set the file permissions and leave the share
permissions open to Everyone.
