Gee I hope this is the right NG. If not, I appologize & kindly direct me to
the right one
MY problem is with the Microsoft fax console.
PROBLEM: every now and then, the fax concole picks up a supposedly incoming
fax when in fact it is only a simple phone call. My phone rings once or
twice>then the fax console intercepts the call by making fax tones. It is
annoying cause it is a regular phone call & the other person has to hear all
these annoying 'fax' tones. It eventually goes away and I can start my
phone conversation. My pc is on. And if I come & look on the screen, there
is the fax box saying that there was an attempt to receive a fax but it
failed.
1) I have always had a sepearte fax phone with the distinctive ring feature
(a different number for fax than the home phone but one phone line). This
fax phone is not connected to the pc. But to the wall. Nothing is connected
to the pc except the wall phone line.
I have had my pc for 1 yr and slowely have begun to get familiar with
programs on it.
A few months ago I played around to try the fax console. Maybe I clicked on
something that is giving this program the wrong tone and mistaking it for a
fax. Only ONCE did it in fact get a fax on the pc and not the faxphone. Who
knows how that came about but it did. I would like your help in figuring
out this program. I would like to be able to choose where the fax comes in
when I get sent one.
