about:blank

I am having a proble where when i open IE it displays a search page enev though about blank is displayed. I have removed enteries in the regiser, i have disabled files in my msconfig, each time i do this it takes lonker to load but up the page comes again. I can not find the about:blank page either - where is it, or what is it called.
