able to resolve DNS and send/receive ping but internet does not work

Hi,

I have an XP box that is having networking issues. When connected to
the wireless network it is able to resolve IP's when using the ping
command, and the ping comes back fine from external sites.

Sometimes when the computer is started the internet will work fine for
a few minutes before it shuts off.

The reason I believe this is a DNS error is if I am on a page (say
google.com) I can continue to use the search engine in that window as
long as I do not leave the site, even after all other pages stop
working. once i attempt to browse away from the site no pages work.

Also, it may not have anything to do with it but when trying to
'repair' the network connection it always comes back with "Failed to
access NetBT Driver - NetBT may not be loaded." I am using the
administrator account on the computer so that isnt the cause.

If I use ICS on another PC, this PC is able to obtain an IP and other
settings fine. However I cannot browse to any shared folders on the
intranet, and other computers cannot bworse to shared folders on this
box. I can successfully ping and also use any internal http and ftp
sites.

I used an updated virus software this morning so I do not think it is a
virus.

Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated!

Andrew,

I'd start by looking for LSP / Winsock corruption. Be persistent here.

If that doesn't work out, diagnose a DNS problem, objectively.

And verify DNS server connectivity, continuously, using PingPlotter.
