Abandonment Issues in Desktop Search

Hello,

I've googled around for this topic but not found any answers yet. I
have installed Windows Desktop Search - 02.06.6000.5414 along with
Windows Search Deskbar - 02.06.6000.5414 as we only have Office 2000
at work and this was the version Microsoft advised me to install. Its
indexed my documents completely, and I used it to identify some large
files that were no longer needed which I subsequently deleted.

The problem is that Desktop Search doesn't seem to want to let go of
them. They still show up in the search despite being deleted several
days ago. The index informs me there is nothing to scan, and I forced
an index several times.

So as the subject says, does Desktop Search have abandonment issues?
Surely I don't have to rebuild the index every time I delete a file? I
have just over 60,000 files indexed, this would be a PITA. Thanks to
anyone who can shed any light on this.

After you`ve deleted any entries , is there an apply/ refresh -
refresh button ?

There's an "Index Now" option on the search; I've tried this to no
avail.
