I cant seem to get my machine to run past 12.5 @ 166 mhz. When I try and go
to 13X it posts at 800? mhz. What's up ? I have not raised the vcore at
all and the chip is still pretty cool .. the bios gives me the option to run
all the way to 14X.. The ram limits the FSB - I start getting errors with
anything above 175 FSB so 166 is fine with me but I think the cpu can go
faster.

Asus A7N8X version 2.0 bios 1007
AMD 2500+ AQXEA (running at 12.5 X 166 ) 2800+ 43C with Volcano 7
Kingston 2700 (2 X 256) 2-3-3-5 Dual channel

The big boost in performace comes from raising the FSB. With
PC3200 RAM mine runs at 3200+ with no changes to vcore or RAM voltage.
What the multiplier does is locked in the chip. You can unlock that
with wire jumpers but the improvement will be tiny for a big PITA.

That's correct, you either get 5 to 12.5 or 12.5 to 20 depending on
which CPU you have and whether it is unlocked. To get the full range you
can do some mods, but as AJ said you're probably better off lowering the
Multiplier and raising the FSB if it's possible.

I ones i did that, lowering the multiplier and increase the fsb.
But what i notice, after returning to normal setting, is a fan speed
decrease when opening programme or encoding a mp3 or anything esle.

Maybe it's just my psu that starting to lose power?
I would love to know what to do... help.
