asus a7n8x barton xp 2800 = 1250 Mhz ?!

hi all,
just bought following :
asus a7n8x -deluxe
amd barton 2800
+ 512 ddr stick (pc3200)

plug all things.. : 1250 Mhz
got to the bios.. 100mhz x 12.5 .. ok so.. 1250
but as soon as i change something multiplier, frequency.. i got a vocal post
with "system memory failed.." and everything stops

i just have cpu / ram / video plugged in (no disk, nothing else..)
fsb jumper are on pin 1-2
the mobo is a rev.2.0 with bios 1007

im trying for two days..

fsb166 you mean jumper on position 2-3 ?

i tried position 1-2 (default for fsb 400/333/266) same result for the
moment

CPU External frequency should be 166mhz
memory frequency should be not by spd
resulting frequency should be 166mhz

tried pos 1-2 and 2-3..
still the same "memory test failed"

Not the jumper, in the Bios settings.
Set memory to 166
fsb should be 166 as well.

Try raising DDR ram voltage?, set ram timings manually or less
aggressive? Don't use SPD setting?

you should try 166Mhz ( 166*12.5=2075Mhz)

like it suppos to be.
having a fsb that differ to much from the current speed of your mem,
in my point of view it not stable.

the barton core is lock at 12.5 you cant go ever that.

still not working,
i'll give a last try with the config Ed gave.. but i think my mobo has a
prob.. each time i touch something in bios i got this error "system memory
failed.."
and sometimes, even when i'm in the bios, (with all default conf. >1250) the
computer stops ! and when i try to reboot, i have the problem again..
without anything saved in the bios !! ?
so, a last try .. and i thing i'll bought another mobo .. too bad.. the
a7n8x seemed great.. but i'm just fed up with that litlle voice telling me
"system meomry.." (the next mobo will just have beep posts !!!)

i'll try later .. i'll post the results.. but.. i'm quite sure about the
results
