A7N8X problem with USB2

P

My A7N8X Deluxe 2.0 does not show USB2 in the properties.

Running XP SP1 with latest Nvidia drivers (3.13).
Tried "update driver" and "Search for new hardware".
Driver versions dated 7/1/2001 5.1 so I know they're old.

WinXP-SP1 supports USB2 but how to get the A7N8X to recognize it ?
Shouldn't is say USB2 (like my P4P$ does) ?

Any clues how to fix much appreciated.

Mine doesn't say USB2 and 2.0 transfers work just fine from all 6 ports,
also have the same date as yours.

As long as Device Manager shows a 'Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host
Controller', you have USB2 functionality.

Hmmm. Says:
Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
USB Root Hub.

Did you do anything special to get the "Enhanced" above ?
Do your driver dates agree with mine ? USB works fine, just slooooow
Wondering about re-installing SP1 ?

Try deleting the USB ports/hubs from the device manager and letting
Windows redetect them when you reboot.

Windows redetect them when you reboot.

Okay, deleted all the USB stuff, rebooted, now I get:
"High Speed Device plugged in to a Non High Speed Port"
If you click on the error it says:

"The unknown ISB device will function at reduced speed. You
must add a HI-SPEED USB host controller to the computer
to obtain maximum performance"

The device manager still looks like above, no "Enhanced"

Guess it's time to try a re-install of SP1

Other ideas ?

FWIW, I got a message like... "High Speed Device plugged into a Low
Speed Port" but it only did that in the front USB ports on my Antec
case, someone here said to contact Antec which I did and they sent me a
new part and that fixed it.

What I see in WinXP Pro SP1...
Universal Serial Bus Controllers
Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub

Great info, thanks. Will try other physical ports, this is
plugged into the rear (hardwired) one. At least now I'm sure
the "Enhanced" is what I should be seeing for USB2.

Did the "Enhanced" show up before the new Antec cable ? Or
did this appear as a result of the fix ?

Thanks

Probably neither.

You will get the Enhanced driver installed when Windows finds a USB2
controller, which does not need to have anything plugged into it to do.

How many Host Controllers show in Device manager?

Check your BIOS configuration to ensure that your USB Controllers (In
Integrated Peripherals) are V1.1+V2.0 or similar. Page 58 of the manual for
further details.

It was always like that, before and after the part swap.
Check your BIOS settings for the USB V1.1 + V2.0 setting, but I think
that's the default anyway.

Ultimately, success.

Checked BIOS, fine. Downgraded BIOS to 1006. No change.
Forced install on usbehci.sys from c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386
by doing an update driver and unchecking the compatability box.
Rebooted, re-discovered, had an "ehanced USB" but with yellow
warning. Deleted all USB again, rebooted. Back to USB1.
Upgraded BIOS to 1007. No change.

Then.. I discovered a USB under "Other Devices". Deleted, rebooted,
and finally discovered the "enhanced" USB. Didn't notice this
USB before (was yellow too). Not sure what sequence caused this
"Other USB" to happen, but I'm a happy camper.

What a PITA ;)

I wasn't able to get USB2.0 to work on my board either. I did find the
plain USB controller under other devices with a yellow bang next to it. I
right clicked and selected update driver...... It is now showing "standard
enhanced PCI to USB..." So there is the fix.... Thanks everyone been
wondering about this for some time (use firewire for my DVD burner) but
haven't needed USB2.0 yet.
