A7N8X-E Deluxe & USB2

Hi there,

I just bought a new system based on A7N8X-E deluxe mobo. It's known to have
six USB connectors, but I wonder if the technician did well his job in
mouting the USB ports : in fact, how can I verify that the usb ports are
really USB2 ?

with Sandra 2004, I see all my 6 usb ports, but for 4 of them, it tells me
"USB Version : 1"

Does it mean that those 4 ports are USB1.1 only ?

and furthermore, how can I check that these are real USB2 ?

thank you in advance for your help.

All are USB2 as long as usb2 drivers are installed.
Also as long as USB2.0&1.1 are enabled in bios,
If using case mounted usb ports the have been some problems due to the front
port wires not connected exactly the same as they should be.
Also unless you plug anything in that is USB2 then you will not know.

hello, and first, thank you for your answer...

ok, I'm running WinXP Pro+sp1, but in the device manager, no indication
wether these are USB1 or 2... installed all drivers from the mobo.

If you look at the Device Manager you'll hopefully see 3 USB Root Hubs
listed. Check the Power tab on each of the hubs. 2 of them should each
have 3 ports listed. The other one should indicate all 6 ports, which
correlates to the 2.0 Hub/Controller. Also, one of the 3 USB
Controllers should say "Enhanced". If all this software info exists and
doesn't have any red or yellow markings, then as KB stated, you'll need
a 2.0 device verify the wiring end of things. You'll be able to see
your device or a get a warning about a High Speed Device being plugged
into a low speed circuit.

Once you have fixed the drivers, you can easily test the USB performance.
Insert a 128MB USB 2.0 compatibe pen-memory (flash-memory). Copy a large
file (e.g. 100MB) from your harddisk to the pen.
USB 2.0 is downward compatible with USB 1.1, so copying will take place
either way.
On a USB 2.0 compliant port, it will take you a few seconds. With USB 1.1 it
will take you a few minutes. Max USB1.1 clock speed is 12Mb/s , while USB
2.0 has a max throughput speed of 480Mb/s.

I will test it, and check the device manager.
