A7M266-D Best Video Card

What kind of video cards are folks using in their A7M266-D (and which system
BIOS)? I have rev. 1.03 of the mobo.

Only my Matrox cards work (I have 2 ATIs (Radeon 9500 Pro and a 9800, and
both lock up my board. I also tried an Asus GF4 TI4200, and it would also
lock up).

Is it a voltage thing? I have a 550W PS, so juice is not a problem. I've
stripped the board down to the video card and my SCSI card (in either of the
2 64/66 slots; I even changed the SCSI card), and I get Hangsville (drop the
Matrox back in and all's well). I've tried Jumper and Jumperfree modes.
Nada.

I want a faster video card for this board (and I'm keeping the mobo).

Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks.

I used a Matrox G550 in my old A7M266-D.

Faster in which way?

I'm not sure what to tell you. I have used both the 9500 Pro and 9800 np on
my 266D without issue. It is a rev 1.04 with the onboard USB fixed, which
technically make it a rev 1.05 (there are 1.04 boards without the working
USB). This is using the last 3 non-beta BIOS's. Have you tried the ATI
cards on a clean install or just as a replacement for the Matrox? I have
never had to do a clean install just to change video boards, but I have
heard people say that they have had to.

I have also used a Ti4600 and a GF3 Ti200 on this board without any
problems.

Although not my main machine anymore, I still love this motherboard and will
probably keep it until it dies. I have accumulated a lot of processing
power since I hate to get rid of good machines. :) I can't wait for the
Athlon FX to become a little more affordable. Or Opterons to get a little
faster and more affordable.

Have you tries the new ATI catalyst drivers? I was having occasioal
probs. with my 9000Pro, updated the driver and so far ok. (only a
couple of days) I also had a Matrox card before and the problems
started when I first put in the Radeon with the original drivers.

Good luck.
