A strange problem...

hello,

I just formatted my system drive, reinsalled XP and the service
packs( this is the first time I'm doing all of this on my own) and
then installed the drivers and all the softwares. I'm having this
strange problem - some times, my system hangs but all the processes
are running.

Huh???

Well, its something like this - all the softwares are running but, I
can't use my cursor to operate them. They just keep working at the
background, but I can't control them. The screen just freezes and its
almost like i'm clicking on a picture. Nothing happens. But, yet all
the processes are running.

When this happens, I just wait for sometime and then just press the
power button in my cpu and then it shuts down systematically and while
this happens, I can use all the softwares. But its too late, the
logging off screen appears and then boom, it shuts down. After this, I
restart and then wait for the whole process to repeat.

Any suggestions for this one?

I tried the following :-
scanning for viruses/spywares using zone alarm pro security suite in
safe mode.
installed the latest drivers for the hardware.

Try stopping the 'Indexing' service.

check in safe mode.

to enter safe mode, restart ur computer, keep tapping F8, u will get windows
advance option, choose safe mode and press enter.
