Deal all,
I have a strange computer with Win2k professional Sp4. When I
doubleclicked the command.com in c:\winnt\system32, it give me the error :"
Not a valid win32 Application!" . I copied a new command.com from another
normal computer and the error also occured. The cmd.exe can run normally.
Anyone Can help me?
Thanks very much!

I don't know what the problem with "command.com" is but then
you should not use it anyway. It's a legacy 16-bit program. Why
not use cmd.exe for everything?

Dear Pegasus,
Thanks for reply!
I know "command.com" is a 16-bit DOS program. But one application for
setup must use it. But other win2k computer can run it normally. So do you
have any idea?

I suspect that your problem lies deeper than command.com. Can
you execute other 16-bit programs? edit.com, for example?

Dear Pegasus,
Thanks for reply!
I had tried other 16-bit programs and I discovered that other .com file
like edit.com also couldn't be run with the same error . Any ideas?
Thanks!

This suggests that your 16-bit subsystem is damaged. I would now
do this, in the order shown:

1. Scan the machine with an external virus scanner,
e.g. on www.antivirus.com ("free online scan").
2. Replace ntvdm.exe and ntvdmd.dll from the Win2000 CD.
You must deal with the dllcache folder first, followed by the
system32 folder.
3. Perform a full repair by booting with a Win2000 CD.
4. Reinstall Win2000 over the top of the existing installation.
5. Wipe the disk and do a clean installation.

When I see something of interest, I wonder why - in this case, do a
full repair then re-install and then wipe, I presume format, and then
do a clean install - Is that what you meant?

I suggested an escalating path. If a particular step works - fine,
stop there. If it does not work, move on to the next step.
