A new message turning from unread to read by itself

A message comes into the inbox as unread and in about 5 mins. it turns to
read, by itself. How do i stop that?
 
That must be the preview pane (or reading pane) settings:
TOOLS / OPTIONS / OTHER tab / READING PANE

or disable the reading pane completely
